DreamWorks Television Animation is excited to announce the Summer Trainee Program, an opportunity for recent graduates and entry level talent to gain hands-on experience and exposure to a fast-paced TV animation production environment. The Trainee Program is 12 weeks long (3 months) and is a paid, full-time opportunity covered by the Animation Guild.

Mentored by award-winning Story and Art Directors, Trainees will gain insight into the world of TV animation by working on an animated series currently in production and taking classes taught by DreamWorks artists. The TV trainee program offers two tracks to choose from: Visual Development and Story.

Visual Development: Visual Development Trainees are responsible for creating design assets on a TV show currently in production. The Trainees will be part of a design team, reporting directly to an Art Director, ensuring that the assets created match the creative goals of the series.

An ideal portfolio will showcase:

  • A strong design foundation of perspective, composition, painting, lighting and color theory
  • Your design thought process through: reference, roughs, line art, turns, final line, color, etc.

Story: Story Trainees are responsible for storyboard cleanup and revisions on a TV show (comedy/action) currently in production. The Trainees will be part of a Story team implementing notes to existing thumbnails, rough drawings, and finished panels to ensure that the storyboards hit the creative goals of the series.

An ideal portfolio will showcase:

  • Strong drawing skills
  • A demonstrated sense of storytelling, staging, composition and character acting
  • Your story thought process through: sketches, character poses, facial expressions, design, etc.
  • Strong storyboard samples (the samples can be personal, academic, or professional projects)

Applications open on March 9, 2020, with a deadline of March 23, 2020.
