The internship opportunities are as follows:

 

1) Title: Manufacturing Engineering Intern

Reports to: Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor, dotted line to VP of Operations

Location: Valencia, CA, USA

In this role, the Manufacturing Engineering Intern will be a contributor in hands-on, innovative projects to drive real productivity improvement at TA Aerospace. Through this work, the intern will have ample opportunities to learn about manufacturing and other business processes, as well as interact with all levels of the organization. Projects may be assigned, or initiated through day-to-day observations. As the internship progresses, the intern will be given further opportunities to innovate, as well as increasing autonomy. Throughout the assignment, professional mentoring and guidance will be provided by TA’s leadership. Successful interns will be considered for full-time positions upon graduation, should positions be available.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Complete projects that demonstrate improved productivity. Concepts/tools applied may include, but not be limited to:
    • Analysis of appropriate performance metrics (set-up time, downtime, output, etc.)
    • Use of waste reduction techniques to eliminate waiting, walking, and reduce overall direct labor hours
    • Reduction of scrap and rework through the implementation of tooling, and/or process changes
    • Design of tooling and fixtures to reduce set-up and changeover time while maximizing output
    • Reduction of setup time and standard work
    • Performance of time and motion studies to support baseline and improved cost
  • Support new product development by developing work instructions and assisting with training new employees
  • Troubleshoot / resolve production issues as well as assist with the investigation and disposition of defective product
  • Assist in the generation and revision of production planning
  • Assist department supervision with process training
  • Assist department supervision in optimizing work center layouts
  • Study and investigate state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies /techniques for potential application
  • Assist with other manufacturing processes and special projects as assigned

Education/Previous Experience

  • Currently working toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Materials, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering
  • Strong people skills and ability to work well autonomously, or with team members to achieve a common goal
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Bi-lingual skills in English and Spanish preferred
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project skills

2) Title: Design Engineering Intern (also posted on Viterbi Gateway; Job ID: 324487)

Reports to: VP of Engineering

Location: Valencia, CA, USA

The Design Engineering Intern completes projects related to new product development in support of new business initiatives. Specific tasks include creating project plans, assisting with component design, from initial part/product conceptualization to full engineering development, and creating prototypes. Project work includes day to day interaction with the Business Unit Team, including Sales, Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, R&D, and Manufacturing Engineering. The Intern will also assist with technical engineering support of current product lines through value analysis, product quality improvements, manufacturability, and performance optimization in the field. Throughout the assignment, professional mentoring and guidance will be provided by TA’s leadership. Successful interns will be considered for full-time positions upon graduation, should positions be available.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist in generating product designs in accordance with TA / Industry specifications and customer performance criteria
  • Generate drawings/schematics of innovative new product ideas and applications
  • Develop assembly and detail drawings and review completed drawings for accuracy and adherence to specification requirements
  • Ensure design and prototype lead times are well defined and schedules are adhered to by working toward milestones
  • Work closely with Business Unit Team to support the design and development of new products, including the fabrication of prototypes
  • Provide design and drafting support to other Engineers
  • Maintain technical accuracy and quality of work for all assignments; i.e. analytical support, evaluate/provide design alternatives and tolerance studies
  • Provide technical assistance to Sales/Marketing as required
  • Provide technical support to suppliers as required

Education/Previous Experience

  • Currently working toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Materials, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering
  • Basic CAD, CATIA, and/or 3D solid modeling skills
  • Strong people skills and ability to work well autonomously, or with team members to achieve a common goal
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project skills
