
Water Quality Section Co-op Internship Program
Looking for a way to apply your Viterbi coursework to real-world challenges? The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, in partnership with Cal Poly Pomona Foundation and the Center for Community Engagement, is offering the Water Quality Section Co-op Internship Program.
This is your chance to gain hands-on experience while contributing to the mission of protecting safe, clean drinking water for millions of people.
Why Apply
As a co-op intern, you’ll work alongside engineers, scientists, and lab staff who are leaders in water quality and treatment. This is a chance to see how large-scale water systems operate and how research supports safe, reliable drinking water for millions of people.
You’ll apply your major in meaningful ways—whether that’s building lab and analytical skills in chemistry or microbiology, connecting engineering concepts to real-world operations, or using computing and data tools to support water quality systems. Along the way, you’ll strengthen key professional skills like teamwork, problem solving, and technical communication while contributing to projects that make a real impact.
Eligibility
- Open to students majoring in: Chemistry, Microbiology, Civil/Environmental/Chemical Engineering, Computer Science/Information Systems, or closely related fields
- Minimum overall GPA of 2.5 in relevant coursework
Internship Details
- Location: Water Quality Laboratory, La Verne, California
Schedule: 10–20 hours per week during the semester; up to 40 hours per week may be available in summer
Experience Gained: Laboratory and technical skills, applied research, data and computing tools, report writing
