Viterbi Mock Interview Day connects industry partners and alumni with USC engineering students through personalized 20-minute behavioral mock interviews. This high-touch engagement allows your team to build meaningful connections, identify standout talent early, and leave a lasting impression before recruiting ramps up.

Representatives may participate in either a 2.5-hour on-campus or virtual session.

There is a 2.5-hour minimum time commitment to participate in this event.

Event Details:

Each representative will meet one-on-one with an engineering student for 20 minute mock interview sessions. This event will have both an on-campus and virtual session. Choose your preferred session when you register.

Industry matching: This event is open to all Viterbi engineering students. Interviewers select an industry and their time slots are labeled with that industry. Students select appointments to meet with interviewers, matching them to a related major.

Each representative will provide behavioral mock-interviews for students one-on-one either on-campus or on Zoom. Logistics and next steps for the event will be emailed to you once you register.

Viterbi Career Connections will create appointment times for you during your time slot.
Students will pre-register to meet you and will each arrive at their appointment time. We will send your appointment details before the event. You must participate the entire time you register to accommodate the one-on-one appointment-style nature of this event. If you can no longer attend, contact us to cancel.
On the day of the event, representatives are assigned a mock interview space.
Each student arrives for their designated mock interview appointment.
For 20-minutes, representatives will ask students behavior-based interview questions and provide feedback to the student. Then, a 10-minute break till take place between interviews.

Matching: Students select the time slot of their choice, labeled as the industry each employer chooses when they register. This allows for more relevant matching between students and industry partners.

How Students Sign Up: Viterbi students pre-register for the event using a scheduling system where Viterbi Career Connections labels time slots with the industry and time, and then students self-select the timeslot. There is a 10-minute buffer between each time slot, to allow for closing conversation and interviewers break.

For example, if NVIDIA signs up for 3 representatives from 10-12 with the industry as " High Tech/Communications" the system will show students:

10 – 10:20 am : High Tech/Communications
10 – 10:20 am High Tech/Communications
10 – 10:20 am: High Tech/Communications
10:30 - 10:50 am: High Tech/Communications
10:30 - 10:50 am: High Tech/Communications
10:30 - 10:50 am: High Tech/Communications

..and so on. As students sign up, the slots show as “filled".

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email, followed by a logistics email and calendar invitation. Accept the calendar invitation to add the event to your calendar.

On-Campus Logistics:

We will email you next steps with instructions and ask for any additional information.
Student pre-register to meet you one-on-one for your entire mock interview shift.
You'll receive a calendar invitation with the details of your mock interview schedule.

Arrival and Parking:

Plan to arrive at 9:30 am to allow for parking, walking, finding the room, and enjoying complimentary breakfast before the interviews begin.
A parking permit code will be provided to you, a maximum of 2 cars are allowed.
Enter campus at the Downey Way entrance - on the cross street of Vermont Ave. and W 36th Place.
Provide the code to the attendant and they will give you a parking pass to leave on your your dashboard.
- If you do not get the parking pass to leave on your dashboard, you will get a ticket. Please only enter the Downey Way entrance and check in using the code provided to you.
Enter the parking garage on the right hand side after entering the Downey Way parking entrance to campus.

On the day of the event:

We will provide you with a Mock interview Rubric to guide you through the Mock Interviews. Student would like constructive feedback on their interviewing skills.
- Students will be placed at a desk with the representative and will share their resume.
- Representatives will have 20 minutes to meet with the students, ask behavioral-based interview questions, and provide feedback.
- A announcement will be made to signal that there is 5-minute left for each session.
At the end of the session, students will be moved from your table There will be an approximately 10-minute gap before the next student will be placed in the room.
At the end of the time period (12:30 pm) the event will come to a close. Interviewers are invited to stay for a complimentary lunch!

A calendar invitation will be sent to you with the zoom link to the event, accept the calendar invitation.
Student pre-register to meet you one-on-one for your entire mock interview shift.

On the Day of Virtual Mock Interviews:

Log in to to Zoom link no later than 1:10 pm
Once checked in, the Viterbi Career Connections team will provide an introduction to the day, what to expect, and how the mock interview will be run.
You will then be placed in your designated breakout room. DO NOT leave your room once you are moved there.
Students will check in and be moved to your breakout room for their mock interview.
Introduce yourself, and provide a few behavioral interview questions for each student, then providing your feedback for their answers.
There will be time warnings broadcast on Zoom for 5 minutes, 1 minute, and closing the conversation
At the end of your 20-minute mock interview, the students will be moved from your breakout room, there will then be a 10-minute break period before the next student is moved into the room.
At the end of the time period (4 pm) the breakout rooms will be closed and everyone will re-enter the main session for closing remarks from the Viterbi Career Connections team.
